Application Requirements & Track Options

Nurse Residency Program Tracks

  • Ambulatory hires to a pool that then works on matching you to a department about a month before your start date. Although we have clinics spread across middle Tennessee and beyond, nurse residents are typically matched to a clinic located on our main medical campus or One Hundred Oaks campus in Nashville and which has supportive environments for the new graduate nurse experience. The clinics available for each cohort vary based on availability. Some may include primary care, surgical care, cardiac or other specialty clinics, oncology, and infusion areas.

    What is ambulatory care nursing?
Ambulatory care nursing is characterized by registered nurses (RNs) caring for high volumes of patients in short periods, often dealing with issues in each encounter that can be unpredictable. These encounters encompass both collaborative and RN-independent activities. In partnership and collaboration with other healthcare professionals, ambulatory care RNs address patients’ wellness, acute illnesses, chronic diseases, disabilities, and end-of-life needs.

In the professional domain of nursing, RNs are responsible for patient advocacy, application of evidence-based nursing knowledge, use of the nursing process during encounters, coordination of nursing and other health services, provision of health educational services, and continuity of care for patients as they transition across different types and levels of health care continuum services.

Application Next Steps

After applications are reviewed, our recruiters will contact candidates. A hiring department conversation will be scheduled for qualifying candidates.

We do our best to match new hires with their first choice of department top choices. However, considerations are based on department needs and participation. You may be contacted to explore other opportunities if your initial choices are no longer available.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must possess an associate's degree in nursing (ASN or ADN); bachelor's degree in nursing; or higher from a state-approved program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Nurse residents hired into the program without a BSN will be encouraged to attain a BSN within three years.
  • You must be licensed before your start date. Residents providing documentation of successful NCLEX results and pending application for TN RN licensure (or a state that is part of the enhanced nurse licensure compact) will be considered eligible to start.
