Neuroradiology

The Section of Neuroradiology supports large, busy neurology, neurosurgery, and ENT practices and all departments that have need of sophisticated neuro-imaging in both the main hospital and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. The section is staffed by eight ABR certified neuroradiologists, two of whom primarily cover pediatric neuroradiology. Others have subspecialty interest and expertise in head and neck and neuro-vascular imaging and spine procedures. The section members work closely with the clinical services and meet jointly at regularly scheduled conferences such as brain tumor board, head and neck tumor board, pediatric tumor board, and neuro-vascular conference to list just a few.

The Section of Neuroradiology is an active participant in the Code Stroke initiative. While interventional neuroradiology functions as a separate section, the initial evaluation of the stroke patient is by members of the section of neuroradiology. Extensive research opportunities exist in conjunction with members of the Vanderbilt Institute of Imaging Science. Our 7.0 Tesla human size magnet as well as multiple high field small bore magnets are housed at the VUIIS. The radiological sciences division includes over 30 Ph.D. scientists who support clinical investigation, teach radiological physics and engineering, and participate directly in quality assurance.
