"Neural activity signatures of compulsive substance use"

Elucidating the neural activity patterns associated with vulnerability to substance use disorders and how vulnerability can be precipitated by experiences is critical to understanding and treating these disorders. We describe a pipeline for leveraging individual differences in pathology-like behaviors in rodents to investigate the circuit mechanisms underlying vulnerability. We apply this approach to compulsive alcohol drinking behaviors, a cardinal symptom of alcohol use disorders.
