Resonant Voices: Benefiting the Music Cognition Lab's Research

The Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab, led by Dr. Reyna Gordon and Dr. Miriam Lense, advances discovery and application of how music is part of who we are and what we do every day. Musicality is fundamentally tied to our health and wellbeing, with growing research studying the impact of music on our physical, mental and social well-being. The Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab focuses on the relationship between music, language and social-emotional development with the goal of better understanding how musicality relates to our overall health (physical, mental and social). This will lead towards improving the personalization of health care.

With your support, we are able to develop, provide and study music programs for children and families impacted by autism, speech/language impairments, and other developmental disabilities and health conditions. We investigate how and for whom music interventions can help. We train the next generation of students and therapists.

Resonant Voices will highlight the work of the Music Cognition Lab through musical performances, the sharing of science and stories, and original songs by program families. Join us for a pre-event reception to meet the artists and scientists and support the work of the lab.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

LEIGH NASH

The world knows Leigh Nash best as the delightful pixie-esque voice atop massive global hits such as “Kiss Me” and “There She Goes” with Sixpence None The Richer, but she’s worked tirelessly to define her perspective though her songwriting output, showcased on her newest project, “The Tide, Vol. 1,” a six-song collection of duets recorded with people Leigh considers personal superheroes. LIZ LONGLEY

Best known for her stop-you-in-your-tracks voice, Liz Longley is an accomplished singer-songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. With her deeply emotional music, Longley has earned accolades from some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition. The Berklee College of Music grad worked alongside 5-time Grammy-nominated producer, Paul Moak, on her much awaited sixth album, Funeral For my Past. The journey of her self-release made music industry headlines when her devoted fanbase raised over $150,000 to help her purchase the rights to and independently release the album. Longley became the #4 most funded solo female musician in Kickstarter history - a story covered by Billboard Magazine.
