The State of New York has distinct immunization requirements from Tennessee, which students are screened for upon entering Vanderbilt University. One major difference is the requirement for a Meningitis ACWY vaccine within five years of beginning classes on a college campus in the State of New York. The vast majority of students at Vanderbilt University will have had at least one documented meningitis ACWY vaccine after age 16, which is the Tennessee State requirement, unless they have an approved medical/religious/off-campus exemption.
To ensure that all students planning to study at Vanderbilt’s New York City campus as part of the VU-NYC program are compliant with the State of New York immunization requirements, follow these steps:
- Complete the REDCap survey linked below (link coming soon), including the attached response form, and attach the completed form file to the REDCap survey before submitting. This will trigger a review within the Student Health Center to ensure all requirements are met for students participating in this program.
- If the student is compliant with New York state meningitis ACWY vaccine requirements, they and the VU-NYC program coordinator will get an email confirming immunization compliance. The student's obligations will then be complete.
- If the student is not currently compliant with Men ACWY vaccine requirements for NY State: If any additional vaccination or documentation is required to be compliant, SHC will reach out to the student via My Health at Vanderbilt (MHAV) on next steps. Students will not be able to register for classes at VU-NYC until they have completed the survey and associated documentation.
