Michele Hasselblad, DNP, RN, NE-BC
Chief Nursing Officer
Vanderbilt University Hospital
I began my Vanderbilt journey in 2005 as a staff nurse in the perioperative specialty with an associate degree in nursing. I chose Vanderbilt because I was drawn to the teaching hospital environment; I stayed because I had never experienced a culture like the one I found here. My broader nursing career started in 1992 in a small rural hospital before transitioning to an academic medical center where I practiced in the cardio-thoracic and liver transplant operating rooms and inpatient units providing direct patient care. I have always loved caring for patients, so when I was first presented with opportunities for leadership, I decline. Over time, I chose to say yes and continued saying yes to roles that allow me to serve patients, nurses, and colleagues in new and meaningful ways.
