Dr. Bradley joined our surgical faculty in the Division of General Surgery as an assistant professor of Surgery, after working as a private practice General Surgeon in Knoxville, TN. His clinical areas of expertise include abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia (inguinal, ventral, incisional, flank, and epigastric), biliary disease/gallbladder, diaphragmatic hernia, and sports hernia/athletic pubalgia.

Research

Dr. Bradley’s research interests include patient outcomes before and after hernia repair, hernia quality of life, minimally invasive surgical techniques, robotics in surgery, biology of hernia, and hernia device implants. His recent publications include: Does Ventral Hernia Defect Length, Width, or Area Predict Postoperative Quality of Life? Answers from a Prospective International Study, Journal of Surgical Research; Defining Surgical Outcomes and Quality of Life in Massive Ventral Hernia Repair; an International Multicenter Prospective Study, American Journal of Surgery; and SAGES Guidelines for Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair, Surgical Endoscopy.

Memberships

Dr. Bradley is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is also a member of the Americas Hernia Society and Tennessee Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bradley is an American College of Surgeons Fellow. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery.

Education

Dr. Bradley graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Memphis, in Memphis, TN. Graduate studies in science and business were conducted at the University of Memphis, in Memphis, TN. Dr. Bradley received his MD from Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC. He completed his residency and internship at University of South Carolina/Palmetto Health, Columbia, SC. He completed his Minimally Invasive Surgery fellowship with a focus on hernia repair at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.

• Defining the risk factors for gastric cancer development.
• Understanding the progression and evolution of dysplastic stage to cancer as a key transition state in gastric carcinogenesis, using novel in vitro organoid models and in vivo mouse models.
• Defining tumorigenic potential of heterogenous dysplastic cell lineages, including dysplastic stem cells, as gastric cancer precursor cells.

Dr. Maurer joined our surgical faculty after completing a fellowship at The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. Her clinical areas of expertise include biliary disease/gallbladder, acute care surgery, GI surgery, surgical endoscopy, and hernias. Dr. Maurer is certified in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Research
Dr. Maurer’s research interests include flexible endoscopy and resident well-being. Her recently published articles include Chapter 6: Diagnostic Endoscopy During PEG, Nova Science Publishers and Techniques, Effectiveness and Potential Complications, pages 55-76, Nova Science Publishers.

Education
Dr. Maurer received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. She also earned her medical degree at Indiana University. She then completed her internship and residency at Southern Illinois University, Springfield, IL and completed a one-year fellowship at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Zamora joined our faculty after completing a Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine-Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, in Georgia. His clinical areas of expertise include advanced minimally invasive surgery in children; neonatal, congenital anomalies; pediatric solid tumors; thoracic pathology; and hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders.

Research
Dr. Zamora’s research interests are in fetal and neonatal surgery, pediatric surgery clinical outcomes, and surgical education. His publications include Predictive Value of MRI Findings for the Identification of a Hernia Sac in Fetuses with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, American Journal of Roentgenology; Low Abdominal NIRS Values and Elevated Serum Intestinal Fatty Acid-Binding Protein Predict Necrotizing Enterocolitis in a Premature Piglet Model. PLoS One; and An Analysis of Outcomes Comparing Single-Site Venovenous ECMO to Multi-Site Venovenous ECMO for Pediatric Respiratory Failure, Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
