This grand rounds lecture is designed for faculty, residents, staff and medical students.

Learning objectives of this presentation include:

  • Use my personal narrative as a vehicle to look at my profession and the current disparities in radiology for women and people of color
  • Discuss identity, how identity can shift, and the concepts of privilege and being the "other"
  • Identify how current radiology culture could be a barrier to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce
  • Practice behaviors that affirm and respect people and invite all opinions to be voiced
  • Create structures within the department that create community

Leah Sieck, M.S., M.D., is an adopted Korean-American breast imager who works at University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH.  She is an assistant professor for the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and an associate program director for the University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University Radiology Residency program.  She is the coordinator for the Women in Radiology interest group for University Hospitals.  Her research interests are: radiology-pathology topics, contrast enhanced ultrasound, and diversity advocacy in the healthcare workplace for women and minorities.  She completed medical school, radiology residency and fellowship (breast imaging and musculoskeletal imaging) at the Indiana.
