Surya Gangavarapu, MD

Surya Gangavarapu, MD was born in India and immigrated to the US when he was 6, ending up in Austin, Texas. He moved to Nashville to attend college at Vanderbilt, where he joined the university's rowing team and competed against collegiate teams throughout the country. He stayed at Vanderbilt for medical school, obtaining his MD in 2025. During medical school, he developed a passion for global neurosurgery and traveled to Kumasi, Ghana for three months to investigate barriers to care for children with brain tumors. His current academic interests include global neurosurgery, systems-thinking in health care, and health policy. In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting, sampling Nashville's growing food scene and spending time in nature.
