Thompson

Welcome to the Department of Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt. We are an active, vibrant, energetic Department focused on a vision of academic and clinical excellence. It is our mission to recruit and retain the very best Faculty, Residents, and Staff and to foster their development as a collaborative team. We maintain our focus on providing high-quality, cost-effective patient care, educating tomorrows Neurosurgical leaders and advancing research in the Neurosciences. We conduct our efforts in an environment of excellence and a culture of collegiality that is typical of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One of the primary areas of our focus is on training and educating the Neurosurgical leaders in our Field. We have an incredibly diverse spectrum of residents in our Program and this is by design.

Our clinical programs are comprised of 6 subspecialty areas within Neurosurgery, including Spine, Functional, Neuro-Oncology, Cerebrovascular and Endovascular, Pediatrics, and our Community Practice Program. In each of these areas we strive for excellence and provide state-of-the-art comprehensive neurosurgical care for patients in our local, regional, and national communities. Research is an integral part of what we do and is an area of emphasis in our Department. Our Research Programs span from the very basic science laboratory level of investigation to human clinical trials and outcomes related research. Our Faculty are recognized leaders in their field, both nationally and internationally, and increasingly Vanderbilt is being recognized as one of the leading Centers for Academic Neurosurgery in the United States. Our Department has changed considerably over the past few years, having nearly tripled its contingent of Faculty members and tripling as well of our surgical volume. We have become one of the very busiest single surgical services at Vanderbilt. I am very proud of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Vanderbilt and I encourage you to take a careful look at our Departmental Website.
