Under the oversight of the General Neurology Division, the Vanderbilt Neurology Department’s Headache Clinic is dedicated to diagnosing and treating all types of headaches and facial pain. Headache cases account for about 50% of all patients followed by General Neurology, and the rich expertise within the department allows for extraordinary patient care.
Physicians in the clinic evaluate and treat patients with chronic headaches, most commonly, migraine headaches. Other types of primary headaches include cluster headaches, hemicrania continua, hypnic headache, tension headaches and headaches caused by underlying disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, pseudotumor cerebri and other conditions. Faculty members working with headache patients devote themselves to discovering the root cause of the symptoms and pain in order to provide the most effective and personalized plan of treatment. The clinic also participates in multiple clinical trials for the prevention and treatment of headache to improve one's quality of life.
