The MathWorks has scheduled a free on-site demonstration for Vanderbilt’s MATLAB community: Topic: Speeding Up MATLAB Applications, including Parallel Computing Date/Time: Wednesday, March 3rd, 2-5 p.m. Location: 134 Featheringill Agenda: Presenter: Brett Shoelson, Ph.D., Principal Application Engineer Brett will demonstrate simple ways you can improve and optimize your code to boost execution speed by orders of magnitude.

Microsoft has sent notification that the following products cannot be sold through its Student Select program until non-infringing versions become available: Office Enterprise 2007 Suite (Student Select) Office Professional Plus 2007 Suite (Student Select) Office Standard2007 Suite (Student Select) Office 2008 for Mac (Student Select) As a result of this notice, the above products have been removed from the ITS Software Store. Microsoft has not released a date for when non-infringing versions will become available.

Microsoft has notified Vanderbilt that on December 22, 2009, a United States court of appeals ruled that Microsoft must stop selling versions of Word and Office that infringe on a United States patent. The injunction only applies to licenses purchased after January 10, 2010. The ITS Software Store is in the process of downloading updated Word 2003, Word 2007, Office 2003 and Office 2007 products which remove the disputed custom XML tagging functionality.

A new e-Learning benefit has been added to SAS software subscriptions sold through the ITS Software Store. The new benefit provides access to five self-paced courses: •SAS Programming Introduction: Basic Concepts •Advanced SAS Programming •SAS Programming 1: Essentials •SAS Programming 2: Data Manipulation Technologies •Querying, Reporting, and Analyzing Data Using SAS Enterprise Guide The courses are accessed through SAS Institute’s website.

SPSS PASW 18 for Windows (including Windows 7) and Macintosh (including Snow Leopard) is available through the ITS Software Store.

ScienceSlides has been added to the ITS Software Store per request by the Medical Center. ScienceSlides may be used to enhance PowerPoint presentations.

SPSS 17 does not support Windows 7 or Snow Leopard (http://support.spss.com/ProductsExt/Statistics/Compatibility.html), Version 18 does support these operating systems. SPSS, Inc. estimates it will ship version 18 to Vanderbilt sometime during the second half of October. Version 18 will be a free upgrade to current subscribers.
