Eric Brown, MD, PhD

Dr. Brown is originally from Minnesota, but is happy to be warmer in Tennessee. He received both his medical degree and doctorate from the University of Iowa. After completing his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, he was a surgical glaucoma fellow at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Brown joined Vanderbilt’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 2015 where his main clinical focus is the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. He is Vanderbilt’s glaucoma fellowship program director and leads the ophthalmology residency’s biomedical informatics focus program. His research interests include utilizing ophthalmic imaging and functional testing to predict glaucoma disease progression; assisting faculty, fellows, and residents with informatics and statistics projects; and defining, implementing, and promoting ophthalmology information standards. Finally, he is one of two ophthalmology eStar physician builders and clinical champions. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.
