BMIF 7340: Clinical Informatics

Since Spring 2021, Adam Wright, PhD, and Allison McCoy, PhD, have co-taught BMIF 7340: Clinical Informatics for the Biomedical Informatics Graduate Program at Vanderbilt University.

The class combines a series of lectures on foundational clinical informatics topics, such as inpatient and outpatient EHR workflows, clinical terminologies, and clinical decision support, with guest lectures from expert faculty at VUMC (nursing informatics, clinical applications of LLMs, pharmacy informatics, etc.), and tours of clinical and informatics-related areas, such as the ICU, pathology lab, and data center so that students can understand workflows in the various parts of the health system they may study or work in an informatics capacity.

This course is offered each spring.
