Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

Christine Smith, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. In addition to her clinical interest in malignant hematology (leukemia and lymphoma), she is interested in how the electronic health record can be used to improve the quality and safety of care of children. In addition to participating in quality improvement work locally, she also helped co-found the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Special Interest Group for the American Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. In order to make effective changes, she recognizes the importance of the ability to collect high quality data from the EMR. She also believes in the ability to “make the right thing the easy thing” in the EMR as an essential component of creating positive change and impacting the care of children with blood disorders and cancer.
