Director of Nurse Safety and Wellbeing

Sarrah Spohnholtz, RN, MSN is the Director of Nurse Safety and Wellbeing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she leads enterpriselevel initiatives to strengthen physical and psychological safety across nursing teams. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Hospital Administration from the University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign and a Master of Science in Nursing from DePaul University.

Within the Office of Nursing Strategy and System Integration, Sarrah developed and implemented the WellNurse Program and Environments Dashboard, an evidenceinformed framework designed to assess operational indicators of burnout and guide targeted, systemlevel interventions. Her work also includes analyzing employee injury trends to inform prevention strategies in collaboration with executive leadership, Occupational Health, and risk and safety partners.

Sarrah serves as a nurse researcher in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Vanderbilt Global Health Policy, and the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, with a focus on moral injury among nurses, implementation science, caring science, and clinician wellbeing. She is also a practicing forensic nurse with the VUMC SANE Team. Her professional background includes emergency nursing leadership and practice, emergency medical services, and public health.
