Peter Y. Samuel, DO is a board‑certified internal medicine physician and clinical informatics fellow in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Samuel completed his internal medicine residency at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he served in multiple leadership roles focused on clinical informatics, health IT governance, and documentation excellence. During residency, he earned Epic Physician Builder certification and contributed to enterprise‑wide initiatives including EMR harmonization, clinical handoff redesign, and quality improvement efforts in chronic kidney disease care.
As a clinical informatics fellow, Dr. Samuel has led initiatives spanning EHR optimization, analytics, and implementation science. His work includes optimizing interruptive clinical decision support alerts, supporting large‑scale Community Connect go‑lives, and piloting AI‑generated clinical note summaries. He holds multiple Epic certifications across clinical build and analytics.
Dr. Samuel’s scholarly interests center on the intersection of inpatient care delivery, clinical decision support, interoperability, and physician workflow optimization. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree with research distinction from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
