Patrick Assi, MD
Dr. Patrick Assi joined our surgical faculty in the Department of Plastic Surgery as Assistant Professor after a Plastic Surgery Residency and an Enfolded Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Assi's practice will encompass a wide range of expertise, including Facial Plastic Surgery, Rhinoplasty, Reconstructive Surgery, and Migraine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery. For the latter, he has been awarded the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery Grant to conduct research on peripheral nerve regeneration. His research interests also extend to patient-reported outcomes following gender surgery and occipital neuralgia surgery.
Research
Dr. Assi has made significant contributions to the field of plastic surgery, with publications in various peer-reviewed journals. Notably, His publications include An ode to Gillies and Millard: The ten commandments applied to self-inflicted head and neck gunshot wounds in FACE, A systematic review and meta-analysis on the incidence of patients with lower-limb amputations who developed symptomatic neuromata in the residual limb in the Annals of Plastic Surgery, and A Review of the diagnosis and management of headache in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Assi also serves as the Director of Clinical Research and the research fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he oversees clinical research projects.
Memberships, Awards and Honors
Dr. Assi is board-eligible for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is an active member of prestigious organizations such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Migraine Surgery Society, and the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Notably, he has received awards such as the Bruce Shack Leadership Award and the Best Resident Consultant Award from the Department of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University. Additionally, he was honored with the Annual Meeting Resident Research Award by the Maryland Orthopedic Association.
Education
Dr. Assi completed his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree at the University of Balamand in Beirut, Lebanon. His training continued with an internship and residency training in General Surgery at the MedStar Health General Surgery Program in Baltimore, MD. He then completed an Integrated Residency in Plastic Surgery with an Enfolded Fellowship, both at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Patrick David Kelly, MD, MSCI
Dr. Kelly joined our surgical faculty in the Department of Neurological Surgery as Assistant Professor after completing a fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology and Skull Base Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Kelly’s research will focus on patient-reported outcomes, peri-operative management, and clinical outcomes for patients with brain and skull base tumors.
Research
Dr. Kelly has published on a range of topics including skull base disorders, patient-reported outcomes, residency training, surgical ethics, and history of medicine. Among his primary clinical research interests are pituitary lesions, malignant brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Included among his recent publications in peer-reviewed journals are: Conditional vasospasm-free survival following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, Neurocritical Care, 2022; Neurologic exam frequency and time-to-delirium following traumatic brain injury, Neurosurgery 2023. Additional publications include: Data-driven residency training: A systematic review of evidence-based initiatives for neurosurgery programs, Neurosurgery, 2021; and Arnold Max Meirowsky: Champion of the American Mobile Neurosurgical Unit during the Korean War, Neurosurgical Focus 2022.
Memberships, Awards and Honors
Dr. Kelly is board-eligible in Neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He received the 2022 Teaching and Leadership Award from the Department of Neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the 2019 Voland Neuro-oncology Research Award from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Education
Dr. Kelly earned a dual Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He received his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN. He completed his neurosurgical residency and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This was followed by a neurosurgical oncology and skull base surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.

Maggie Gallagher, MD
Dr. Gallagher joined our surgical faculty in the Department of Pediatric Surgery, as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatric Surgery, after serving as Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center and as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Her additional prior roles include pediatric surgeon at San Antonio Pediatric Surgery Associates and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Texas Health San Antonio, TX. She specializes in pediatric surgery, including neonatal, thoracic, minimally invasive, and trauma procedures.
Military Service
Dr. Gallagher is an active service member with the United States military and was recently promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army in May 2023. In addition to her Vanderbilt University Medical Center roles, Dr. Gallagher is on staff at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Clarksville, TN, and serves as chief of General Surgery there.

William Lineaweaver, MD
Dr. Lineaweaver joined our surgical faculty in the Department of Plastic Surgery after serving as professor of Surgery at The University of Mississippi, Jackson, MS and associate professor of Plastic and Hand Surgery at Stanford University, Stanford, CA. His primary clinical practice and experience focus on acute and reconstructive burn care and reconstructive plastic surgery, including hand surgery. Dr. Lineaweaver will concentrate on adult plastic surgery and acute and secondary burn care. His other interests include peripheral nerve surgery and microsurgery.
Research
Dr. Lineaweaver has extensively researched burn care, with related research in surgical infections, flap circulation and physiology, and muscle innervation. Another primary focus of his research is practice economics and sustainability. Included among his recent publications in numerous peer-reviewed journals are: Burn Care in Mississippi: Past and Present, Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association, Comparative study of frozen and permanent section for diagnosis of toxic epidermal necrolysis, Journal of Burn Care & Research, Annals of Plastic Surgery 2022;88:S392-400, and Annals of Plastic Surgery 2022;88:S119-126. Dr. Lineaweaver is also Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Lineaweaver is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and Southern Surgical Association. Dr. Lineaweaver was previously a visiting professor, including at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Louisiana State University-New Orleans. He was recently named Honorary Upchurch Lecturer by the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

Dr. Lineaweaver attended Davidson College, Davidson, NC. He received his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. His internship and residency in General Surgery were completed at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, and the University of Florida, respectively. His general surgery training was followed by a Plastic Surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, CA.
