Thank you for visiting the Vanderbilt Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Our department exists to relieve suffering from mental illness and addiction. We do that through care for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital, our outpatient clinics, and in schools and communities across Tennessee; through research that ranges from the brain to the clinic to the community; and through training the next generation of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners and scientists.
Psychiatry is changing quickly. New treatments, better ways to deliver care, and new tools for understanding illness give us real reasons for optimism. Our job is to bring those advances to patients, and to make sure that people who need care can get it.
We provide inpatient care to children, adolescents, and adults in the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH), an 106-bed facility on the campus of the Vanderbilt Medical Center. The neighboring Veterans Administration Hospital, across a small courtyard from our campus, is a training site for our medical students and residents.
