Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2)

The second year emphasizes continued inpatient experiences while adding rotations on our consultation service (both child and adult), night float, and psychiatry emergency service to complete a two year program designed to build strong clinical skills in hospital-based psychiatry. As the senior resident on the inpatient service each PGY2 works directly with PGY1s and medical students, which provides an excellent opportunity to improve teaching skills. Residents also begin one half day a week of psychotherapy during this year.

Call Schedule:

PGY2 call consists primarily of weekend consult/emergency psych call, which is 9am-9pm on Saturday or Sunday. On average, each resident will complete ten of these calls throughout the year.

Didactics:

One afternoon each week is protected for seminars that continue to build on the previous year’s lecture series.
