2022-23 Nicholas Hobbs Discovery Awards, Director’s Strategic Priorities Grants announced

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) Nicholas Hobbs Discovery Awards and Director’s Strategic Priorities Grants have been announced for the 2022-23 award cycle. Projects address spatial processing, repetitive movements, adaptation of an intervention for Spanish-speaking families, and improving diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies for autistic individuals with co-occurring intellectual disability.

Dr. Rafael Tamargo joined the Vanderbilt Department of Psychiatry in 2022. He is a member of the Emergency Psychiatry team within the Division of General Psychiatry. Dr. Tamargo performs evaluations in Psychiatric Assessment Services at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and provides consultation to the Vanderbilt University Hospital and Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Emergency Departments. He also leads the Vanderbilt Psycho-Oncology program, a joint venture between Vanderbilt Behavioral Health and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Additionally, he performs electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) through the Neuromodulation Service.

Dr. Tamargo received an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Princeton University. He went on to complete a research training fellowship at the National Human Genome Research Institute. He received his M.D. and M.B.A. degrees through the dual-degree program at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management. He completed General Psychiatry Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Western Psychiatric Hospital, before returning to Vanderbilt as faculty.

Kast publishes paper in Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Kristopher A Kast, M.D., assistant professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, program director of the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program, and clinical director of the Addiction Consult Service, recently served as author of a newly-published paper in the Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.

Dr. Timothy Adegoke joined Vanderbilt Psychiatry as faculty in 2023, shortly after completing a clinical fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (Psychosomatic Medicine) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Prior to that he completed his general psychiatry residency at Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia.

Dr. Adegoke primarily provides inpatient psychiatric consultation services to medical and surgical teams across the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital system. In addition, he serves as a member of the Vanderbilt Psychiatry neuromodulation team, delivering treatments such as Electroconvulsive Therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to patients with treatment-resistant psychopathologies.
