Objectives

The activity is designed to help the learner

  1. Describe the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for treatment-resistant depression.
  2. Describe the use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for treatment-resistant depression.
  3. Describe the use of neurosurgical procedures for treatment-resistant depression.

Summary

This talk will discuss non-pharmacologic interventions for treatment-resistant depression, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS, Dr. Ward), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT, Dr. Shultz), and neurosurgical procedures (Dr. Bick). Speakers will discuss indications, effectiveness, risks, and contraindications of each intervention.
