Our clinicians provide anesthesia care for more than 133,000 adult and pediatric patients annually across more than 150 anesthetizing locations. Each year, the department also:
- Evaluates nearly 20,000 patients in the Vanderbilt Preoperative Evaluation Clinic (VPEC).
- Provides care for more than 16,000 patients through the Vanderbilt Interventional Pain Clinic.
- Delivers anesthetic services for approximately 56,000 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including radiologic, gastrointestinal, and interventional procedures.
Our faculty works alongside residents, fellows, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), nurse practitioners, and other advanced practice providers to deliver care in six adult intensive care units, as well as pediatric and neonatal intensive care units.
As a Level I Trauma Center, Vanderbilt Health serves an 80,000-square-mile region, treating more than 8,000 trauma patients annually, with over 5,000 trauma admissions each year.
Faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology provides comprehensive perioperative care and anesthesia services for a diverse patient population, ranging from routine elective procedures to highly complex surgical cases. This academic faculty position offers opportunities to educate medical students, residents, and fellows while participating in clinical research, quality improvement, and other scholarly activities.
Division of Multispecialty Anesthesiology
The Division of Multispecialty and Trauma Anesthesiology is the department's largest clinical division, providing anesthesia care across 60 operating rooms and procedure suites. Faculty care for patients undergoing a broad range of surgical procedures, including:
- General surgery
- Trauma surgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Urology
- Plastic surgery
- Ophthalmology
- Vascular surgery
- Otolaryngology
- Gastroenterology
- Pulmonology
- Hepatobiliary surgery
- Liver and kidney transplantation
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Faculty are expected to have expertise in the perioperative management of patients with significant comorbidities and those undergoing complex surgical procedures. Experience in regional anesthesia and enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols is preferred but not required.
