Heather Cole Named Associate Program Director for Nuclear Medicine Residency & Fellowship Programs

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to share that Heather Cole, MD, will be assuming the role of Associate Program Director of the Nuclear Medicine Residency and Fellowship Programs. Dr. Cole recently joined VUMC Radiology faculty as an Assistant Professor after spending time in our department as a nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology resident. This makes her an optimal candidate to work alongside the Program Director, Nuclear Medicine’s Section Chief, Philip Scherer, MD. 

Katie Van Schaik Awarded VICTR Seed Grant

Assistant Professor Katie Van Schaik, MD, PhD, has been awarded a seed grant from the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) for her pilot study "Mechanistic Association of Epigenetic Bone Age and Frailty Measures with Bone Imaging Studies Using Novel Artificial Intelligence Approaches."Using Vanderbilt’s ImageVU and BioVU resources, Dr. Van Schaik's pilot study will identify correlations between bone mineral density, as measured on opportunistically acquired CT exams, with DNA methylation measurements.

Harry Marshall Joins VUMC Radiology

VUMC Radiology is excited to welcome Harry Marshall, MD, PhD, to our department as an Assistant Professor! He will be reading remotely for our Abdominal Imaging section. Dr. Marshall comes to VUMC from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada, where he has served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology since 2020. Prior to joining as faculty, Dr. Marshall completed his undergraduate degree, combined MD/PhD program, and a residency in radiology at UWO. He then attended UCLA for a fellowship in abdominal imaging.

Harry Marshall, MD, PhD, completed his medical degree, graduate studies, and Diagnostic Radiology residency at Western University before pursuing a clinical fellowship in abdominal imaging and intervention at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then returned to Western University as faculty. 

During his tenure at Western, he was twice honored as Teacher of the Year by the resident body. He served as the Magnetic Resonance Medical Director, participated in protocol development, and led a randomized controlled trial. He also delivered invited presentations at both local and national levels.

Dr. Marshall joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2024. His current research focuses on HPB oncologic imaging and machine learning.

Bennett Landman Elected to 2024 College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE)

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to share that Bennett Landman, PhD, Stevenson Chair of Engineering, Professor and Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Principal Scientist of ImageVU, has been elected to the 2024 College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), along with three other Vanderbilt University engineering faculty members, who are each experts in engineering, surgery and chemistry/biomolecular science.
