Richard Heller Passes Away at 86; Remembering the Professor Emeritus

Richard M Heller, MD, Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, founder of Pediatric Radiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on the evening of Monday, February 3, at the age of 86. 

Jackiel Mayo Rejoins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

VUMC Radiology is excited to welcome back Jackiel Mayo, MD, to our department as an Assistant Professor with our Abdominal Imaging section!Dr. Mayo received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town and practiced as a radiologist for many years in South Africa before coming to Vanderbilt in 1994. He completed additional training at VUMC and joined as radiology faculty in 1996. 

Scott Morris Joins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

VUMC Radiology is happy to welcome Scott Morris, MD, back to our team as he joins our Community Radiology section as an Assistant Professor.Dr. Morris, who completed his residency in diagnostic radiology here at VUMC, is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine. After finishing his training here in Nashville, he went on to serve as a Staff Diagnostic Radiologist with the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he stayed until 2023. 

Phillip Bates Joins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

VUMC Radiology is proud to share that Phillip Bates, MD, has joined our ranks as an Assistant Professor within our Neuroradiology section.Dr. Bates is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he received a bachelors degree in chemical engineering and worked as a process engineer for two years before attending medical school. He went on to graduate from South Alabama College of Medicine. Dr. Bates completed his diagnostic radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
