Radiology Residents Visit Tennessee State Capitol for a Day on the Hill

Vanderbilt Radiology residents recently participated in a Day on the Hill at the Tennessee State Capitol in downtown Nashville.

Residents from across the state, including those from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, met with state representatives and senators about legislation directly related to the practice of radiology and medicine in Tennessee. Topics discussed included legislation around balanced billing, certificate of good faith transparency, corporate practice of medicine, interstate medical licensure compact, maintenance of certification and healthcare provider stability.

“The Day on the Hill was a fantastic experience,” said second-year radiology resident Dr. Patrick Couture. “It was great to see radiology residents coming together for a common cause.”

Hosted by the Tennessee Radiological Society, a Day on the Hill encourages physicians and physicians in training to get involved in conversations and legislation directly impacting their practice and patient care.

Residents met with Speaker of the House Beth Harwell, Secretary of State Tre Hargett, representatives John Ray Clemmons, Antonio Parkinson, Ryan Williams, senators Richard Briggs, Lee Harris, Jeff Yarbro, Steve Dickerson, and Tennessee Medical Association spokeswomen Julie Griffin and Rebecca Woods.

“Meeting state representatives and senators and being able to discuss issues directly impacting radiologists in Tennessee was a privilege,” added Dr. Couture. “I plan to stay involved in these conversations and to continue to share my voice in how to solve to key issues impacting radiology in the future.”

Vanderbilt Radiology residents that attended a Day on the Hill included Drs. Couture, Cara Connolly, Micah Fritsche, Erik Landman, Scott Morris, Josh Tavernier, Kevin Taylor, Sam Pevzner, Eleby Washington and William Winter.
