Matthew Roberts Joins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is pleased to welcome Matthew Roberts, MD, to the Emergency Radiology section as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Roberts comes to us from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as an Assistant Professor since 2017. Previously, he worked in private practice and for the University of Tennessee health group at a Level 1 trauma center.

Matthew Smith Wins RSNA Resident Research Award

A research project aimed at developing a new way to image lung perfusion has won a VUMC Radiology member a coveted award. Abdominal Imaging fellow Matthew Smith, MD, PhD, was chosen as this year’s recipient for the RSNA Resident Research Award. Dr. Smith’s research, “Detecting pulmonary embolism using fluoroscopy and spectral analysis: a non-contrast method” started in 2019 when he joined the department as a first-year Diagnostic Radiology resident. He was nominated by the department to recognize his work and efforts towards this research.

2023: Residency Programs Hosting Virtual Open House & Interactive Info Sessions

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is happy to announce that it will be hosting TWO virtual interactive information sessions for our residency programs via Teams. Both Diagnostic Radiology and Integrated Interventional Radiology will be represented at the open houses. You must pre-register to attend. Erin Cooke Selected for SCARD-GE Healthcare LEAD Program

Congratulations to Erin Cooke, MD, Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director and Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, for being accepted into the 2023-2024 SCARD-GE Healthcare Leading Empowering and Disrupting (LEAD) Program. This program, a joint project by SCARD and GE Healthcare, is a one-year women’s leadership program comprised of 20 female leaders from across the field of radiology. The goal is to increase the number of women in leadership positions, building a network of women across radiology and the industry.
