Michael Cauley, PhD, DMin

Michael R. Cauley, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biomedical Informatics at VUMC who studies how EHRs, clinical documentation, and AI-drafted notes shape clinicians’ work, patient relationships, and well-being. His framework on the dual nature of documentation, as both a disruption to patient relationships and a meaningful extension of care, was named an Editor’s Choice paper in JAMIA. A former practical theologian and executive coach who still serves as an Air Force chaplain, he is pursuing VCLIC’s Physician Builder Program and welcomes connections around EHR workflows, clinician experience, and AI documentation tools.
