Clinical Interests:

Dr. Brian Drolet is the Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, and his clinical expertise includes all chronic and acute conditions of the hand and wrist.  He also has experience in peripheral nerve surgery including nerve repair, reconstruction and decompression for carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes.  Dr. Drolet leads a team that helps patients with painful conditions like arthritis using new techniques for surgical denervation of joints, as well as other conditions like post-amputation and phantom limb pain using regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces and targeted muscle reinnervation. 
 
Professional and Academic Involvement:

Dr. Drolet is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with additional certification in Surgery of the Hand.  He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies and has received multiple awards for teaching and research.  Drolet is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), American Council for Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC).  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Drolet is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents and fellows at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and he is Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Plastic Surgery.

Research:

Dr. Drolet has diverse research interests. He has clinical projects focused on hand surgery, including as the principal investigator for a randomized controlled trial at the VA.  He has published on subjects including medical education, biomedical informatics, medical ethics, and quality improvement. Drolet is the author of more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, including three first-author publications in The New England Journal of Medicine and two in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
