  • Located on the Cumberland River, Nashville is the capital and most populated city in Tennessee (3rd most populated city in the Southeast US). 
  • Nashville is known as "Music City" due to it's strong ties to the music industry, especially country music
  • It is also commonly called the "Athens of the South" due to the large number of universities. Nashville is home to Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Tennessee State University, Fisk University, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Lipscomb University
  • Nashville has been named:
    • within the top 10 cities to live in after the pandemic (Today)
    • within the top 15 cities in the US (Travel + Leisure)
    • within the top 10 friendliest cities in the world (The Discoverer)
  • Residents may choose to live in apartments or condominiums in a more urban-style setting or in townhomes or homes in suburban areas. Housing options include walking distance or a reasonable daily commute
  • Boasting a mild climate with all four seasons, Nashville offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities to suit a wide variety of interests

Resident Benefits

  • Current Housestaff salaries/stipends
  • 15 days of vacation + 2 personal days per year + Independent Study week over winter holidays
    • Residents also have vacation on the holidays the department is closed (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, etc) unless assigned as Resident On Call
  • Sick leave accrual at rate of 1 day per month
  • Six weeks paid parental leave (up to 12 weeks unpaid through FMLA)
