David Head, MD
David Head, MD, is a distinguished clinical pathologist and professor emeritus in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is recognized for his longstanding contributions to anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology and academic medicine, and for his commitment to excellence in diagnostic pathology, education and service.
Dr. Head earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine and completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. Following his training, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he served in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology and provided expert clinical care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Head specialized in hematopathology and played an important role in the diagnostic evaluation of hematologic malignancies and blood disorders. His clinical work supported multidisciplinary patient care and advanced the application of pathology expertise in complex clinical decision-making. In parallel, he contributed to the academic mission of the department through teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Head’s scholarly contributions include publications and research in pathology and hematologic disease, helping to advance knowledge in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine.
