Vanderbilt Eye Institute
The Vanderbilt Eye Institute is a comprehensive clinical and research facility, committed to finding the best treatments for eye diseases and vision problems. Our full-time faculty of physicians works collaboratively with our staff scientists to conduct cutting-edge research that results in the most advanced patient care. Our research - particularly in macular degeneration, glaucoma and retinopathy in premature babies consistently makes headlines and is published in academic journals.
Vanderbilt Eye Institute is part of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which ranks among the premier health care facilities in the United States. Serving approximately 4.5 million people, we are a major patient referral center for the Mid-South region - a center that satisfied patients keep returning to again and again.
Vanderbilt University Hospital
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is licensed for 677 beds and is composed primarily of the School of Medicine and research buildings, School of Nursing, Vanderbilt University Hospital, Medical Center North, Medical Center East and The Vanderbilt Clinic. The Hospital, a modern 11-story facility, was dedicated in 1980.
The Hospital administrative offices and research facilities are also located in Medical Center North. Medical Center East was completed in 1992 and houses outpatient surgery and obstetric services. The Vanderbilt Clinic, completed in December of 1987, accommodates all outpatient services, the main operations of the Department of Nutrition Services, the cafeteria, laboratories and support services.
The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt Children's Hospital is a place to hope and a place to heal for patients and their families. Ranked as one of the 10 best children's hospitals in the nation by Child magazine, Vanderbilt Children's cares for many of the sickest pediatric patients in the region and beyond.
Vanderbilt Children's is the most comprehensive Children's Hospital in the state, providing services from cancer treatments, organ and bone marrow transplants to broken legs -- and everything in between. We have the only Pediatric Emergency Department in Middle Tennessee and more than 100,000 patients are seen in the outpatient clinics each year.
VA Hospital
The Nashville VA Medical Center is one of two main campuses in the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS), comprised of the Nashville and Alvin C. York Medical Centers and nine outpatient clinics. The Nashville campus offers primary, secondary and tertiary care to veterans living in middle Tennessee and Kentucky. TVHS is affiliated with Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, with active residency programs in all major medical and surgical specialties and sub-specialties. In addition, the Nashville campus supports a vigorous research program of over $19 million annually. The Nashville campus serves as a VHA resource for solid organ and bone marrow transplants.
During the three-year residency, approximately nine months are spent at the VA Medical Center. The VA Medical Center is equipped to allow residents to perform comprehensive ophthalmology procedures as well as subspecialty procedures.
