Attention VUMC Investigators: 

The VUMC template language regarding participant compensation has been revised. the revised template language is required for ALL new VUMC studies submitted after February 16th, 2026. Studies submitted and/or approved prior to this date are not required to utilize the revised language. The VUMC consent templates and the guidance document "VUMC Template Langauge for Sponsor Consents" posted on the HRPP Website have been updated to include the new language.

The VUMC template consent language regarding Genetic Testing has been revised. The revised template language should be utilized (when applicable) for all new VUMC studies submitted after August 17, 2026. Studies submitted and/or approved prior to this date are not required to switch to the revised language. The VUMC Health Sciences Consent Template and the guidance document “VUMC Template Language for Sponsor Consents” posted on the HRPP website have been updated to include the new language.

NEW Study Closure Submission:
A new submission type called “Study Closure” has been implemented for investigators to close their study with the IRB. Instead of submitting a “Continuing Review” submission, a Study Closure will now be submitted via the Study Closure submission type.  As a reminder, all studies require closure with the IRB upon completion, except for studies given a determination of Exempt, Non-Human, or Non-Research.
