Trainee Spotlight

March 2024

Avi Baskin, MD

Avi Baskin, Oncology Fellow

Hi Avi - We are excited to have you featured for our trainee spotlight! Tell us about yourself: this is the first time you've been out of the West Coast, right?

I was in California for college, medical school and residency but I actually did live for one year in Cambridge, England. I completed a Masters in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge between college and medical school. It was an amazing experience and I met life long friends!

How was the adjustment to Nashville with a family?

We love it here! We moved to East Nashville and we found it is so family friendly. We have a 20 month year old daughter Ella and another child on the way. We love the community oriented focus in Nashville. So many kids and dogs everywhere and so much to do.

What has been the best part of the new city?

The best part is the music! We have been spoiled with all the different options for live music - each better than the last!

When you're not doing your favorite lap nephrectomies, what do you do for fun?

We like to get outside, play basketball, go the park with our dog and girl Ella. I also love trying new restaurants in town.

Like me, you live in the best part of the city - East Nasty! What's your favorite restaurant in our part of town?

So many good options. Butcher and Bee and Lyra have to be the top 2 but it also feels like we are discovering new spots all the time.
