Reducing Opioids and enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways

Drs. Miller, Hsi and Robles are studying opioids and their use in endoscopic kidney stone surgery. The goal is to provide patients with the pain relief they need while reducing opioid use in light of the opioid crisis.  The team has developed a non-opiate protocol after ureteroscopy using multi-modal analgesia and has successfully implemented this in practice. Utilization of this protocol has led to an ~90% reduction in postoperative opioid prescribing with no adverse effects on recovery or increase in postoperative visits.
