Human Subjects Education Certification

All VUMC investigators and key research personnel responsible for the design and conduct of research involving human subjects are required to participate in the VU Human Research Protection Program (VHRPP), including selected modules of the CITI course. This certification must be completed on an annual basis.

CITI encompasses two tracks: 

Health Science

  • Module 1: Introduction
  • Module 2: History and Ethics
  • Module 3: Basic Institutional Review Board (IRB) Regulations and Review Process
  • Module 4: Basics of Health Privacy
  • Module 5: Vanderbilt University Medical Center


Social/Behavioral Science

  • Module 1: Introduction
  • Module 2: History and Ethical Principles 
  • Module 3: Regulations
  • Module 4: Informed Consent
  • Module 5; Privacy and Confidentiality
  • Module 6: Vanderbilt University Medical Center
