The Office of Sponsored Programs assists VUMC faculty and staff in the management of sponsored projects. Sponsored projects encompass external funding that will be used for research projects or programs. This funding can be either federal or non-federal.

- VUMC submits approximately 3,000 competing and non-competing grant and contract applications to both federal and non-federal sponsors annually
- VUMC's sponsored research awards, including multiple-year grants and contracts from government sources, foundations, associations, and corporations totaled $458 million in FY2016
