If your research or work activities include working with research animals and the Occupational Health Clinic (OHC) or Student Health Services has determined that you should wear an N-95 respirator for these activities, then you will take the following actions:
- Obtain a copy of your medical clearance document from the healthcare provider if you have not chosen to decline respirator use per the annual allergen screening process.
- Send an email to email@example.com with “N-95 training request” in the subject line. Attach a copy of your medical clearance. In the email, provide your name, job title, supervisor’s name, and tell us whether you are a University or Medical Center person.
- You will receive a notification from the Learning Exchange that you have been enrolled in Respiratory Protection for Biological and Animal Research Staff. Complete the course and send a copy of your certificate of completion to firstname.lastname@example.org with “N-95 fit test request” in the subject line. A VEHS Biosafety Team member will contact you to schedule an appointment. Fit tests will be scheduled for the second Friday of the month between 7:30 and 10:30 am whenever possible. PLEASE Do NOT report to an open fit testing session/event. These sessions are for clinical personnel who may use an N-95 in clinical settings ONLY.
- Upon completion of your fit test, you and your supervisor will be provided with ordering information for the brand, model and size of N-95 that you were successfully fitted in. The proper devices should be ordered and available for all tasks involving research animals.
If you have specific questions regarding N-95’s worn for animal allergen or infectious disease research purposes, please contact Robin Trundy, Biological Safety Officer.
