We are thrilled to welcome Aravind Arepally, M.D. as an Adjunct Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. In his new role, Dr. Arepally will apply his vast experience with medical devices, FDA regulation, and entrepreneurship to help foster innovation for our Vanderbilt trainees and faculty.

Congratulations to Lori A. Deitte, M.D., F.A.C.R., (Vice Chair of Education and Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences) on her Florida Radiological Society Gold Medal Award. A former University of Florida Professor, Abdominal Imaging, Dr. Deitte was presented with the Gold Medal Award on Saturday, July 18 at the Florida Radiological Society’s Annual Meeting. Dr. Deitte was recognized for outstanding meritorious achievements and contributions that have affected Radiology in the state of Florida.  Dr.

Jeremy J. Kaye, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, died July 4 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was 75. Dr. Kaye came to Vanderbilt in 1976 when he was recruited to direct Musculoskeletal Radiology. He was intimately involved in the design and relocation of the department from Medical Center North to Vanderbilt University Hospital upon the facility’s opening in September 1980.

The hippocampus – a brain region involved in learning and memory – is abnormal in schizophrenia. Neuroimaging studies offer evidence of altered hippocampal activity, but mostly rely on a single hemodynamic parameter, for example blood volume or blood flow, and report mixed results.

Twenty-eight retiring faculty members were recognized during Vanderbilt’s Commencement ceremony May 8, when the university honored their years of service and bestowed on them the title of emeritus or emerita faculty. Two of them were from the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.

This month's journal club will revisit ablation of osteoid osteomas.  It's been about 13 years since RFA became the standard of care for treatment of these benign lesions, but since then, several other forms of ablation have been tried, all of which are now available at Vanderbilt. It's good practice to stay abreast of the current trends and to review our current protocol.
