Mahmoud Ahmed, PhD

Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed is a Computational Scientist and Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology department. Mahmoud received a B.Sc. in Physics from Sohag University, Egypt. Then, moved to the United States to obtain MS and Ph.D. from University of Nevada-Reno in theoretical AMO (atomic, molecular, and Optical) physics. Afterward, he moved to University of Pennsylvania and University of Virginia to pursue post-doctoral research in the field of medical physics. Dr. Ahmed joined the Vanderbilt faculty in the fall of 2018.

Dr. Ahmed research interests include:

• EPID dosimetry,
• Development of real-time QA methods,
• Treatment plans optimization and robustness analysis,
• Image-guided and adaptive radiation therapy (IGRT and ART),
• Implementation of innovative/computational techniques in radiation oncology.

Dr. Ahmed is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
