Vanderbilt Microsurgery Course

The Microsurgery Training Center at Vanderbilt offers the following Microsurgical Courses:

1. "Microsurgery Essentials"- One -Day Course

Course Description:

This focused one-day course offers an excellent introduction to the fundamental principles and techniques of microsurgery for all allied learners in the surgical field. It is specifically designed for medical students, advanced practice providers (APPs), researchers, scrub technologists, and first assists who wish to acquire foundational microsurgical skills.

Participants will practice essential microsurgical techniques on synthetic models under expert guidance.

The course curriculum encompasses:

  • Proper use of the operative microscope
  • Microscope handling and ergonomics
  • Microsurgical instrument handling
  • Suturing and knot tying techniques under magnification

Fee: $200

2. "Comprehensive Microsurgery"- Three -Day Course

Course Description:

This intensive three-day course is designed for trainees seeking to develop proficiency in microsurgery, specifically focusing on vessels 1.5 mm or smaller. The course curriculum encompasses:

  • Basic handling of micro instruments and fundamental suturing techniques.
  • End-to-end anastomosis of the rat femoral artery and vein.
  • End-to-side anastomosis techniques.
  • Vein graft techniques.

The course employs a live rat model and is structured on the renowned Louisville course and Acland videos. Instruction will be provided by experienced Microsurgery faculty with extensive clinical backgrounds.
