*Research Professional is a comprehensive database of funding opportunities that currently contains over 7,000 open calls for funding. As part of VUMC's institutional membership, individuals can subscribe to online research news and funding databases. Department of Education (DOE)
Information regarding deadlines and eligibility can be found on DOE's website. The Department of Education offers three kinds of grants:
Discretionary grants - awarded through competitive award process
Student loans or grants - designed to assist students in attending college
Formula grants - utilize formulas determined by Congress and have no application process
Grants.gov is a central storehouse for information on over 1,000 grant programs and provides access to approximately $500 billion in annual awards. Initially named the "E-Grants Initiative," Grants.gov was founded as part of President George W. Bush's 2002 Fiscal Year Management Agenda that worked to improve government's access to the public.
The National Science Foundation funds basic research through grants and cooperative agreements in all areas of fundamental science and engineering, except for medical sciences. More information can be found here.
Internal Funding Opportunities
The Office of Research oversees several internal funding programs. Information about them, including eligibility requirements, guidelines for submitting proposals, and lists of previous years' recipients are included on their website.
Limited Submission Opportunities
VUMC's limited submission opportunities are managed through the Office of Research. These opportunities are limited by the sponsor to either one or a small number of candidates from each institution. Program summaries, eligibility requirements, and due dates are listed on the Office of Research's website.
