BACKGROUND
Dr. Steinkerchner is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained ocular oncologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. Dr. Steinkerchner pursued her medical degree at the University of Toledo followed by an ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. Dr. Steinkerchner then underwent fellowships in ocular oncology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA and medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Her broad clinical interests encompass a variety of retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, and macular hole. Additionally, she specializes in posterior segment pediatric and adult ocular tumors such as uveal melanoma and retinoblastoma. She is skilled in performing a wide range of procedures, including scleral buckle, vitrectomy, intraocular injections, pneumatic retinopexy, and plaque brachytherapy. Dr. Steinkerchner has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at national conferences, contributing to greater advancements in retinal care.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Steinkerchner also serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Nashville VA Medical Center, where she mentors future ophthalmologists and takes care of our veterans. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Steinkerchner enjoys sporting events, gardening, and adventures with her husband and dog Lola.
