This grand rounds lecture is designed for faculty, residents, staff and medical students.

Learning objectives of this presentation include:

  1. Learn to recognize stress, compassion fatigue and burnout
  2. Identify the emotional impact of adverse events on clinicians
  3. Outline the available resources at VUMC to address the continuum of physician well-being

James (Jim) Kendall, LCSW, CEAP, is the Manager for Work/Life Connections-EAP, and has been at Vanderbilt for 18 years. Jim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 40 years of clinical experience. He is a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and a Diplomate in Professional Coaching. Prior to coming to Vanderbilt, he was the Executive Director of the PSI Solutions Center, was Director of Access at HCA Parthenon Pavilion Psychiatric Hospital, and Director of the Williamson Medical Center inpatient PsychCenter. Jim was the VUMC 2015 Commodore Award winner, and has been recognized by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation for his work in Critical Incident Stress Management. He has been active in supporting the work of the Task Force for Empowerment and Well-being.
