This grand rounds lecture is designed for faculty, residents, staff and medical students.

Learning objectives of this presentation include:

  • Cite evidence that diverse teams perform better on complex tasks, and better serve increasingly diverse populations
  • Explain historical precedents and movements progressing toward making diversity and inclusion core values in medical and other enterprises
  • Recount instances of successful diversity initiatives in the radiological professions and other industries
  • Identify opportunities and apply techniques for improving diversity and representation in radiological practices

Johnson B. Lightfoote, M.D., MBA, FACR, is Chair of the Commission for Women and Diversity of the American College of Radiology. After training at Harvard, Stanford, Tuskegee, Pepperdine, and the University of California, Dr. Lightfoote has practiced clinical and academic radiology since 1982. His clinical specialties include neuroradiology, cardiovascular imaging, and mammography. Johnson serves in leadership roles at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, the California Radiological Society, and ACR. Dr. Lightfoote looks forward to conversations at Vanderbilt Radiology around career progression for residents and fellows, and about his recent work and collaborations improving diversity, inclusion and representation in the radiological professions.
