John Scheel Joins as Associate Professor

VUMC Radiology is excited to welcome John Scheel, MD, PhD, MPH, as an Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences in Breast Imaging. Dr. Scheel joins us from Seattle, where he's held a variety of faculty positions in Radiology and Global Health at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr. Scheel has also worked with a variety of community-based organizations emphasizing diversity, equity and inclusion within radiology and breast health—both in America and internationally.

"Dr. Scheel will serve as our inaugural Vice Chair of Global Health," Dr. Reed Omary announced. "A physician-scientist, he will also lead new research initiatives in planetary health."

In 2016, Dr. Scheel received a Master's in Public Health from the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed medical school at the University of California in 2006. Previously, he'd received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the same institution. In 1997, Dr. Scheel earned his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of California in Riverside.
