Deitte named vice chair of Education in Radiology

Radiology education expert Lori Deitte, M.D., has joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center as vice chair of Education and associate professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.

Deitte comes to Vanderbilt from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, where she served as professor of Radiology, Graduate Medical Education Clinical Milestone Liaison, fourth-year medical student Radiology Clerkship director and fourth-year medical student Radiology advisor. Previously, she served as the Radiology Residency Program director.

At Vanderbilt, Deitte will work collaboratively to enhance the Department of Radiology’s education initiatives, said Reed Omary, M.D., M.S., Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and chair of the Department.

“We are thrilled to have such a nationally renowned leading educator and clinician join our Department. In her new role as vice chair of Education, Dr. Deitte will oversee the educational mission across all of our training programs and will help design a mentorship program for our faculty,” Omary said.

Deitte is board certified, is a member of the board of directors and chair of the education committee for the Association of Program Directors in Radiology and is a fellow of the American College of Radiology. She also serves on the education committees of both the Radiological Society of North American and the Alliance of Clinician-Educators in Radiology.

Her academic interests focus primarily on topics related to medical education, and Deitte has received numerous teaching awards during her time in Florida. These include three teacher-of-the-year awards from the radiology residents at Florida, five Exemplary Teacher Awards from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and three awards from the Florida Radiological Society.

In 2010, she was inducted into the University of Florida College of Medicine Society of Teaching Scholars, an honor reserved for only the best education scholars. She was also president of the Florida Radiological Society in 2011-12. For her service, she will be honored later this year with the Gold Medal from the Florida Radiological Society.

Deitte received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine (Madison), where she also completed her Radiology residency and received fellowship training. Prior to joining the University of Florida faculty, she served as chair of the Department of Radiology at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Deitte is married to Mark Rice, M.D., who has joined Vanderbilt’s Department of Anesthesiology as chief of the Division of Multi-specialty Adult Anesthesiology.
