Dr. Patrick Assi joined the surgical faculty in the Department of Plastic Surgery as Assistant Professor after completing an Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency and an Enfolded Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Assi is a board-certified plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of expertise including facial plastic surgery with special focus on rhinoplasty, aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and peripheral nerve surgery. He has been awarded the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery Grant to conduct research on peripheral nerve regeneration. His academic focus centers on advancing facial aesthetic surgery through innovation, precision, and evidence-based technique, with a particular emphasis on modern approaches to rhinoplasty that integrate both structural and preservation philosophies.

Dr. Assi has made significant contributions to the field of plastic surgery, with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. His recent article, “Precision Hybrid Rhinoplasty: Balancing Tradition and Innovation” in Annals of Plastic Surgery journal, presents a contemporary framework for achieving balanced, natural, and functional rhinoplasty results through the thoughtful combination of classic and evolving surgical principles. Additional works include An ode to Gillies and Millard: The ten commandments applied to self-inflicted head and neck gunshot wounds in FACE; A systematic review and meta-analysis on the incidence of patients with lower-limb amputations who developed symptomatic neuromata in the residual limb in the Annals of Plastic Surgery; and A Review of the diagnosis and management of headache in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Assi serves as the Director of Clinical Research and the Research Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he oversees a diverse portfolio of clinical and translational research projects within the Department of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Assi is a member of The Aesthetic Society (The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. His contributions have been recognized with several distinctions, including the Bruce Shack Leadership Award, the Best Resident Consultant Award from the Department of Plastic Surgery at Vanderbilt University, and the Excellence in Patient Experience Award.

Dr. Assi completed his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree at the University of Balamand in Beirut, Lebanon. He then underwent internship and residency training in General Surgery at the MedStar Health General Surgery Program in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by an Integrated Residency in Plastic Surgery and an Enfolded Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
