Christianne Roumie, M.D., MPH graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Rutgers University, N.J Medical School in 1998. She completed training in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and an M.P.H. from Vanderbilt in 2005. Dr. Roumie was recruited as a physician-scientist in cardiovascular prevention and improvement. Her research area is in the design and execution of interventions to improve cardiovascular risk and morbidity. She utilizes population-based approaches to improve patient care. She is a clinical leader in the complex interactions between cardiovascular risk factor control and medication utilization. She has dedicated her research and clinical career to improving population health; including evidence-based care for medication prescribing.    

 

Dr. Roumie has developed successful and important research designed to improve health outcomes by developing evidence-based information for patients, clinicians, and decision-makers about effective interventions. Dr. Roumie has developed a national and international reputation for her work in medications, cardiovascular epidemiology, and improvement.  She is often invited to present her research as a national/ international speaker on pharmacoepidemiology and cardiovascular risk factor management. These include platform presentations at the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Society of General Internal Medicine, and at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and in Montreal, Canada. She has participated in multiple expert committees, including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Diabetes Research Consortium Executive Committee and the Veterans Health Administration Geriatrics taskforce. She is a standing member (voting) and Chair of the Food and Drug Administration's Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee (NDAC).    

Dr. Roumie has been an outstanding teacher and mentor. She is the Deputy Director of the Nashville VA Quality Scholars Program. She serves as a primary mentor to junior faculty in medicine, surgery, and pediatrics. She is the PI of a T32 program and the Learning Health System K12 Program. In 2019 she received the Grant Liddle Research Mentorship Award.

Carolyn J. Heinrich is Chair of the Leadership, Policy and Organizations Department, a Professor of Public Policy and Education in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations at the Peabody College and a Professor of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences. Heinrich’s research focuses on education, workforce development, social welfare policy, program evaluation, and public management and performance management. She works directly with federal, state and local governments in her research to improve policy design and program effectiveness and also collaborates with nongovernmental organizations (such as the World Bank, UNICEF and others) to improve the impacts of economic and social investments in middle-income and developing countries. She received the David N. Kershaw Award for distinguished contributions to the field of public policy analysis and management in 2004 and was elected to the National Academy of Public Administration in 2011.

Roumie to direct Master of Public Health program

Kevin Griffith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and an Investigator at the Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center at the Veterans Health Administration. He has worked in government at local, state and federal levels, developed a lifelong commitment to encourage policies informed by research and evidence, and uses that evidence to improve incentive design and effectiveness of pay-for-performance programs. His research also focuses on improving access to care especially for our nation’s veterans, Medicaid policy, nursing scope of practice, and alternative payment models for prescription drugs. His work has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine, Health Affairs, and Diabetes Care, and has been covered more broadly by NPR, USA Today, Axios and Bloomberg News.

Kevin is also a former Presidential Management Fellow and behavioral research scientist at the U.S. Army and Department of Defense, where he evaluated the costs and outcomes of interventions to improve mental health & resilience in active-duty soldiers. He holds a PhD in Health Services Research (health economics track) from Boston University, and received both a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and BS in Economics from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Margaret Adgent is a research associate professor in the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is an epidemiologist with primary research interests in characterizing prenatal and pediatric exposures and their related health effects, particularly in the context of exploring developmental origins of disease. Dr. Adgent's current research activities include investigation of maternal risk factors for pediatric asthma, including prenatal nutrition, stress, pregnancy complications and exposure to environmental contaminants. She also contributes to several pharmacoepidemiology research projects related to prescription medication use during and after pregnancy. Dr. Adgent received her PhD in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at NIH.
