Inaugural Zambia Research Development and Ethics (ZIRDE) Workshop held in Lusaka

By Perfect Shankalala, UNZA Training CoordinatorIn February 2024, the University of Zambia and the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) hosted the inaugural "Zambia Institute for Research Development and Ethics (ZIRDE) workshop" for eight fellows at Chaminuka Lodge in the Chongwe District of Lusaka. 

2024 Vermund Global Health Achievement Award

Dr. Sten H. Vermund was the founding director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH). The Sten H. Vermund Awards for Excellence in Global Health recognize Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the health of all people through distinguished global health scholarship, education, training, and/or service. This annual $1,500 award recognizes significant achievement in the field of global health during academic training at VUSM. 

2024 Vermund Global Health Travel Award

Dr. Sten H. Vermund was the founding director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH). The Sten H. Vermund Awards for Excellence in Global Health recognize Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the health of all people through distinguished global health scholarship, education, training, and/or service.  

VIGH hosts workshop on best practices in teaching methods and mentorship

Focusing on strengthening master’s level courses and programs at Bayero University Kano (BUK) in Nigeria, a team from the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health developed a two-week intensive course on theories and best practices in teaching methods and mentorship. The course, “Improving Didactic Educational Approaches to Learning Methods” (IDEAL), was developed by Chase Stober, Elizabeth Rose, EdD, MPH, Marie Martin, PhD, MEd, and Megan Davis.

VUSM Graduate Receives 2023 Vermund Award for Excellence in Global Health

Sten H. Vermund Award for Excellence in Global Health Alexander S. Mina The Sten H. Vermund Award for Excellence in Global Health recognizes the graduating medical student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the health of the people of or from low- or middle-income countries through distinguished scholarship, education, and/or contributions to the improvement of clinical care. The award was established in 2017 to honor Dr. Sten H. Vermund, the founding director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health.
